1. P0300 misfire, ticking or valvetrain noise

GM bulletin PIP4138M applies to 2003–2010 Hummer H2 vehicles with a V8 engine. It addresses vehicles with a malfunction indicator lamp, P0300–P0308 misfire codes, or a chirp, squeak, squeal or tick occurring at camshaft speed.

If normal GM service diagnosis does not isolate the cause, the bulletin lists these possible mechanical causes:

Where a rear-main-seal oil leak is found under those conditions, GM attributes it to a frozen PCV system and excessive crankcase pressure. The bulletin specifies cleaning and drying the PCV hoses and using the prescribed vented oil-fill cap as part of the repair process.
