Mercedes-Benz has introduced the XENTRY Vehicle Scanner, an automated system designed to perform a detailed digital inspection as soon as a car arrives at a workshop. Instead of relying solely on a traditional walk-around inspection and manually recording damage, the system combines cameras, LiDAR and AI analysis to create a digital record of the vehicle's condition within seconds.
How does the Mercedes-Benz XENTRY Vehicle Scanner work?
The technology works as a drive-through inspection system. A vehicle passes through a dedicated scanning area while the equipment captures it from multiple angles. According to published details, the system uses 13 high-resolution cameras together with a LiDAR sensor and can capture roughly 150 images during a single pass in just a few seconds.
The captured images and vehicle data are sent to Mercedes-Benz's cloud infrastructure. Artificial-intelligence software then analyses the information, identifies visible exterior damage and evaluates tyre condition, including tread depth.
AI automatically detects vehicle damage
One of the key capabilities of the XENTRY Vehicle Scanner is automated body-condition analysis. The software can flag scratches, dents and other detected exterior defects, reducing the amount of manual inspection required when a vehicle is checked into a workshop.
A digital report replaces part of the manual inspection process
Inspection results are automatically linked to the workshop order and service reception documentation. Service advisers can access the information on a tablet and review the detected damage or areas requiring attention together with the vehicle owner.
The automated process is designed to reduce manual paperwork during vehicle reception, speed up workshop operations and establish a consistent digital record of the car's condition when it enters the service facility.
Privacy is built into the scanning process
Mercedes-Benz says captured images are automatically anonymised before further processing. The system is intended to document the condition of the vehicle while limiting unnecessary personal information in the digital inspection workflow.
Mercedes-Benz deploys its first such AI scanner in India
The new XENTRY Vehicle Scanner has been installed at the Landmark Cars Mercedes-Benz service facility in Jogeshwari, Mumbai. Mercedes-Benz describes the installation as the first automated AI-powered vehicle scanner deployed by an automaker in India.
The technology itself is not limited to India. Similar Mercedes-Benz scanning systems are already operating in markets including Germany, Italy, South Korea, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Turkey.
