Engine Oil and Oil Filter Costs

For documented Golf VIII 1.5 TSI engine codes rated at 96 kW and 110 kW, Volkswagen’s technical schedule specifies:

RequirementConfirmed specification
Oil quantity, including filter4.3 L
Oil standardVW 508 00
ViscositySAE 0W-20
Oil filterRenew with the oil service

A 5 L bottle is therefore the practical purchase size. The stated 4.3 L is a fill capacity; the final oil level must be set using the prescribed workshop/manual procedure, not by blindly emptying the whole bottle.

Basic oil-service parts cost

ItemCost
5 L VW 508 00 0W-20 oil6,900 RSD
Oil filter example749 RSD
Total parts only7,649 RSD

This excludes labour, drain-plug/seal hardware, diagnostic work, inspection charges, and any additional parts.

Fixed vs Flexible Oil Service

Service regimeOil-service limit
Fixed interval15,000 km or 1 year
Flexible intervalService-display calculation, maximum 30,000 km or 2 years

Short urban trips, frequent cold starts, long idling, towing, high dust, rough roads, and heavy stop-start use are severe operating conditions. In those conditions, follow the service display and do not stretch oil changes simply because the maximum flexible interval exists. Volkswagen maintenance schedule

Inspection Service

The normal inspection interval is 30,000 km or 2 years. Volkswagen Serbia states that the exact inspection scope and price depend on the vehicle’s age and mileage, so there is no single confirmed public authorised-service price for every Golf VIII. Volkswagen Serbia inspection service

An inspection can include checks of brakes, tyres, lighting, suspension, fluid levels, body condition, diagnostics, and service actions. It is not the same thing as an oil change.

Spark Plug Costs

The scheduled spark-plug interval is 60,000 km or 4 years, whichever comes first.

ItemCost
Bosch plug example1,724 RSD
Quantity4
Spark-plug parts total6,896 RSD

Do not replace ignition coils as routine scheduled maintenance unless diagnosis shows a fault.

Cabin and Engine Air Filters

FilterNormal intervalCurrent example parts cost
Cabin / pollen filter60,000 km / 2 years970 RSD
Engine air filter90,000 km / 6 years800 RSD

For dusty operating conditions, Volkswagen specifies shorter intervals: cabin filter up to 30,000 km / 1 year and engine air filter 30,000 km / 2 years. Volkswagen maintenance schedule

Brake Fluid

Volkswagen’s Golf VIII maintenance table uses a recurring two-year brake-fluid interval. Volkswagen’s general published guidance distinguishes some model years: 2020-model vehicles may have a first replacement after three years, while model year 2021 onward is generally two years from first registration. Use the vehicle’s VIN-based maintenance plan when these differ. Volkswagen oil and brake-fluid guidance

What Is Due at 90,000 km?

ItemNormal status
Oil and oil filterDue according to the selected oil-service regime
Engine air filterNormally due: 90,000 km / 6 years
Cabin filterDue if its 2-year interval has elapsed
Spark plugsNot automatically due at 90,000 km if replaced at 60,000 km, but the 4-year rule still applies
Brake fluidDue according to age
Timing beltNo standard periodic replacement under normal conditions

A mileage-only checklist is not precise enough: the time limit can make a filter, brake-fluid, or spark-plug service due before its next mileage point.

Timing Belt, Fuel Filter, and Coolant

Timing belt

The 1.5 TSI uses a toothed cam belt. However, Volkswagen’s Golf VIII maintenance schedule does not prescribe a normal periodic replacement interval for petrol timing belts under standard conditions.

The schedule lists 120,000 km only for countries with high dust exposure. Do not market a routine “120,000 km timing-belt replacement” as a universal Serbia requirement. Replace the belt only when the VIN-based plan, inspection result, contamination, damage, or a related repair requires it.

Fuel filter

Volkswagen’s schedule lists fuel-filter intervals for diesel engines, not for the petrol 1.5 TSI/eTSI. Therefore, a petrol fuel-filter change should not be added as a regular maintenance charge without a specific repair reason.

Coolant

The schedule requires coolant level and freeze-protection checks. It does not give a universal, periodic full coolant-replacement interval for these petrol engines.

eTSI-Specific Maintenance and DQ200 DSG

The 1.5 eTSI has a 48-volt mild-hybrid system with a belt starter-generator, 48-volt lithium-ion battery, and related electronics. Volkswagen confirms that the 150 PS 1.5 eTSI is paired with the seven-speed DQ200 DSG. Volkswagen eTSI drivetrain information Volkswagen eTSI system overview

ItemConfirmed position
Routine engine maintenanceBroadly the same scheduled oil, plugs, filters, brake fluid, and inspections as TSI
Belt starter-generator belt and tensioner180,000 km under standard conditions
eTSI electrical-system repairsNot a scheduled service item; cost depends on diagnosis and parts
DQ200 DSG oil service at 60,000 kmDo not add automatically
DSG servicingVerify exact gearbox code and VIN; the factory table’s 60k/120k entries are for other DSG codes

The eTSI may have higher repair exposure than a conventional TSI because of its additional 48V components, but that is not a fixed scheduled-maintenance cost.

Wear Items: No Fixed Factory Price or Replacement Interval

These items depend on driving style, road conditions, vehicle specification, and condition inspection:

Wear itemWhat determines replacement
Front and rear brake pads/discsMeasured thickness, corrosion, wear sensors, braking conditions
TyresTread depth, age, damage, alignment, tyre size
Wiper bladesSmearing, cracking, visibility
12V batteryTest result and age
Suspension componentsPlay, leakage, noise, alignment
Clutch / DSG repairsDriving conditions and diagnosis

Do not give these a guaranteed kilometre interval or include them in a routine-service total without inspection evidence.

Authorised Volkswagen Service vs Independent Workshop

OptionBest forCost position
Volkswagen authorised serviceWarranty, campaigns, software actions, factory digital history, complex eTSI/DSG diagnosisQuote required; usually higher
Independent VAG specialistRoutine oil, plugs, filters, brakes, condition-based workCan reduce labour cost; use correct approved oil and VIN-confirmed parts

For a newer or warranty-covered car, authorised service is the safer option. For older vehicles, an experienced VAG specialist can be suitable for routine work if the invoice records the correct oil approval, parts, mileage, date, and service-reset procedure.

What the Invoice Should State

ItemRequired on invoice
Engine oilExact approval: VW 508 00, not merely “0W-20”
Oil quantityQuantity actually used
Oil filterBrand and part number
Spark plugsPart number and quantity: 4
FiltersCabin and engine-filter part numbers
Brake fluidFluid specification and replacement date
LabourSeparate line from parts
VIN / mileageVehicle identification and odometer reading

Bottom Line

For a Golf VIII 1.5 TSI/eTSI, the confirmed recurring maintenance is primarily oil service, inspections, spark plugs, filters, and brake fluid. Using the current Serbian retail examples above:

Typical jobParts-only reference
Basic oil service7,649 RSD
Spark plugs, four pieces6,896 RSD
60,000 km parts basket, excluding brake fluid/labour15,515 RSD

Do not automatically add a petrol fuel-filter replacement, timing-belt replacement, or DQ200 60,000 km DSG oil service. Those are common sources of inaccurate maintenance quotes.
