Volkswagen Golf VIII (Mk8) - 2019 — настоящее время

The Volkswagen Golf VIII, also known as the Golf Mk8, is the eighth generation of one of Europe's best-known compact cars. Introduced in 2019 as the successor to the Golf Mk7, it retained the traditional Golf formula: a practical C-segment car combining compact exterior dimensions, everyday usability, passenger comfort and solid build quality. The Golf VIII is based on the Volkswagen Group's upgraded MQB Evo platform.

One of the most significant changes compared with the previous generation was the transition to a heavily digitalised interior. Conventional instruments and many physical controls were replaced by a digital instrument cluster and a central infotainment display. The Mk8 also introduced expanded online connectivity, smartphone integration and a wider range of electronic driver-assistance technologies.

The powertrain range has included TSI petrol, TDI diesel, 48-volt eTSI mild-hybrid and eHybrid/GTE plug-in hybrid versions. Depending on the engine, specification and market, the Golf is available with manual transmissions or Volkswagen's DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission. Performance-oriented versions include the Golf GTI, GTI Clubsport and the all-wheel-drive Golf R.

Driver assistance and active safety became an important part of the Mk8 generation. Available technologies include Front Assist, Lane Assist, adaptive cruise control and Travel Assist, which can combine steering, acceleration and braking assistance under suitable driving conditions. The Golf VIII was also among the first Volkswagen production models to introduce Car2X communication, allowing the vehicle to receive warnings about hazards from other vehicles and road infrastructure.

Volkswagen introduced a substantially updated version of the eighth-generation Golf in 2024, commonly referred to as the Golf Mk8.5. It remains part of the Golf VIII generation rather than an entirely new model. The update brought redesigned front and rear styling, a new-generation infotainment system, larger central displays and revised controls. Plug-in hybrid versions gained significantly increased electric driving range, while the performance-oriented GTI and Golf R variants were also upgraded.

The Golf VIII remains a versatile compact car designed for a broad range of drivers. Its relatively small footprint makes it suitable for urban use, while its passenger space, luggage capacity and motorway comfort allow it to serve as a practical family car. The wide choice of conventional, hybrid and high-performance powertrains enables the Golf Mk8 to cover everything from economical daily transport to genuinely performance-focused driving.
