Toyota recalls around 655,000 Camry vehicles over instrument cluster safety issue

Toyota has launched a global recall covering roughly 655,000 Camry vehicles because of an instrument-cluster issue. In the United States alone, the official campaign covers 508,354 Toyota Camry Hybrid vehicles from the 2025 and 2026 model years. The problem involves software used by a specific 7-inch combination meter, which can unexpectedly remain blank when the vehicle is started.

What exactly can go wrong?

According to documentation filed with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, an error can occur during the instrument cluster's startup sequence. The consequences extend beyond losing the information normally shown on the display.

When the fault occurs, the turn signals, hazard warning lights and certain audible warnings may also stop functioning, including seat-belt reminders. The defect can therefore affect both the driver's awareness and the vehicle's ability to communicate its intentions to other road users.

Which Toyota Camry vehicles are affected?

The U.S. recall documentation lists potentially affected vehicles produced between August 15, 2024 and June 9, 2026. Toyota notes that not every vehicle built during that period is affected. The issue applies specifically to vehicles equipped with the relevant instrument cluster and software.

A blank instrument cluster can prevent the driver from seeing important indicators and warnings. The repair does not require replacement of the entire instrument cluster. Toyota dealers will update the combination-meter software free of charge for affected owners. In the United States, owner notifications are scheduled to be sent between September 21 and October 5, 2026.
