EV subsidies in Serbia: more than 1,000 applications in 2026
Demand for EV incentives in Serbia has surged in 2026, with more than 1,000 applications submitted — over five times the number recorded a year earlier.

Interest in buying electric vehicles with government support has increased sharply in Serbia during 2026. According to the latest figures published in August, the Ministry of Environmental Protection has received more than 1,000 applications for EV subsidies, over five times the number recorded in the previous year.
More than 1,000 EV subsidy applications
Environmental Protection Minister Sara Pavkov said applications are coming not only from private buyers but also from companies and public enterprises. Some corporate applications cover several dozen vehicles, which means the 1,000 applications should not be interpreted as exactly 1,000 individual electric cars.
Nearly €3 million allocated to around 600 vehicles
According to the ministry, almost €3 million has so far been directed toward subsidies covering roughly 600 vehicles. Only part of the submitted applications has been processed, and the ministry is considering securing additional funding to continue supporting the strong level of demand.
How much is Serbia's EV subsidy in 2026?
The 2026 program applies exclusively to new fully electric vehicles. Electric vehicles in the L1 and L2 categories qualify for €250, vehicles in categories L3-L7 qualify for €500, while buyers of new fully electric M1 passenger cars and N1 light commercial vehicles can receive €5,000 in Serbian dinar equivalent.
Individuals, entrepreneurs and legal entities are eligible to apply. Conventional hybrids and plug-in hybrid vehicles are not included in Serbia's 2026 subsidy program.
Applications through eUprava until September 30
Applications are submitted electronically through Serbia's eUprava government portal. The application period runs until September 30, 2026, although subsidies are awarded in the order of complete applications and only while allocated funds remain available. If the available budget is exhausted earlier, the process may be suspended and resumed if additional funding is secured.
Electric cars are gaining momentum in Serbia
The sharp increase in applications suggests that electric cars are becoming a more significant part of Serbia's automotive market. A €5,000 incentive can substantially narrow the upfront price gap between an EV and a comparable combustion-engine vehicle. However, applications should not be treated as completed vehicle sales, so the full impact of the 2026 program will become clearer after the current subsidy cycle is completed.
