BYD is a Chinese technology and automotive company focused on electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, batteries and energy technologies. Its automotive business is one of the world’s leading new-energy vehicle manufacturers and operates across numerous international markets.
The range includes battery-electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids, from city cars to saloons, SUVs and more premium sub-brands. Key technologies include the Blade Battery and DM hybrid systems, while the vehicles’ construction and powertrains differ substantially from conventional petrol and diesel cars.
BYD vehicles normally need less routine engine-related work than combustion-engine cars, but they require qualified high-voltage servicing. Important checks include the battery, cooling system, charging equipment, regenerative braking system, tyres and software. All work on high-voltage components should be performed by an authorised service centre.
