Ariel cars — models, engines and maintenance
Ariel is a British manufacturer of ultra-lightweight road, track and off-road vehicles based in Crewkerne, Somerset. The marque is best known for the open Atom sports car and Nomad off-road model, which use tubular chassis with exposed mechanical components and an emphasis on power-to-weight ratio.
Its current programme includes the Atom 4, Atom 4R, extreme Atom 4RR and Nomad 2. The Atom 4RR is a built-to-order, track-focused but road-legal model powered by a hand-built 2.0-litre turbocharged Honda engine producing 525 hp. The Nomad 2 is an all-new generation of Ariel’s off-road model, with a different chassis, powertrain and equipment from the earlier Nomad.
For accurate Ariel maintenance information, the exact model, production year, VIN, engine specification, turbocharger, ECU map, gearbox, differential, brakes, suspension, wheels and road or track configuration must be considered. Atom, Nomad and Atom 4RR data is not interchangeable. Beyond normal engine and drivetrain maintenance, inspection of the tubular chassis, welds, fasteners, brake components, cooling system, suspension alignment and tyres is essential. Standard Honda service data can be a starting point, but it does not replace the specification for the individual Ariel.
