Alvis cars — models, engines and maintenance
Alvis is a historic British automotive marque founded in Coventry in 1919. Its original passenger-car production ended in the late 1960s, and the marque was known for luxury vehicles, inline-six engines and coachbuilt bodies created with prominent British bodybuilders.
Today, The Alvis Car Company builds a limited number of Continuation Series cars to special order. The range includes the Vanden Plas Tourer, Bertelli Sports Coupé, Lancefield Concealed Hood, Park Ward Drop Head Coupé and Graber Coupé/Cabriolet. These cars are built from original works drawings and carry Alvis chassis and engine numbers that continue the historic sequences, while being adapted to current emissions requirements.
For accurate Alvis maintenance information, an original historic vehicle must be distinguished from a modern Continuation car. The chassis and engine numbers, exact body style, 3.0- or 4.3-litre engine, fuel and ignition system, gearbox, brakes and any modern equipment must be verified. Information for an original 1930s or 1960s Alvis is not automatically applicable to a Continuation car, which may use electronic engine management, an updated fuel system, servo brakes or different electrical equipment. Parts and repair procedures should be confirmed against the documentation for the individual vehicle.
