AK cars — models, engines and maintenance
AK, also known as AK Sportscars, is a British specialist sports-car manufacturer based in Peterborough. The company produces recreation sports cars as self-build kits, factory-built rolling chassis or fully completed bespoke vehicles. Its current range consists of the AK427, AK40, AKSS and AKD.
AK vehicles do not have one universal factory powertrain specification. The AK427 can use various V8 engines, including Rover V8, Chevrolet small-block, Ford Windsor and Chevrolet LS units; the AK40 is offered with Ford Coyote or Ford 302 engines. The AKSS and AKD are designed around a 4.2-litre Jaguar inline-six engine. The exact specification depends on the individual build, customer order and market.
For accurate AK maintenance information, the chassis number or VIN, build specification, installed engine and gearbox, differential, fuel-injection or carburettor system, wiring, brakes, suspension and donor-component list must be considered. Data for different examples of the same AK model is not interchangeable. Service intervals are determined primarily by the documentation for the installed engine, gearbox and other components—not by one universal AK schedule. Parts and repair information for the original historic vehicles must not be used as a substitute for the documentation of the specific AK build.
