Aixam is a French brand specialising in quadricycles, often referred to in France as licence-free cars. The brand was created in 1983 through the acquisition of Arola. Many Aixam passenger models are light L6e quadricycles, but driving entitlement, registration and road-use restrictions depend on the law of the relevant country; French rules should not be assumed to apply elsewhere.
Aixam’s current French range includes the easy, City, Coupé and Crossover families, offered with diesel and fully electric powertrains. Depending on the model and market, an Aixam may use a diesel engine or an electric drivetrain with a traction battery. According to manufacturer data, electric City and Coupé versions can have a declared WMTC range of up to 113 km; real-world range depends on battery specification, temperature, driving style and equipment.
For accurate Aixam maintenance information, the exact model, production year, VIN, type approval, powertrain and trim must be considered. Diesel and electric-version data is not interchangeable. Diesel models require maintenance of the engine oil, filters, fuel-injection system, CVT transmission and drive belt; Aixam recommends replacement of the diesel fuel filter every 5,000 km. Electric versions require checks of the traction battery, high-voltage components, onboard charging equipment, charging port, 12-volt battery, brakes, tyres and software. The exact service plan and parts must always be confirmed against the VIN and factory documentation.
